How to Save Money with Integrative Medicine

It’s no secret that integrative or naturopathic medicine can be expensive, especially given that insurance is not often accepted. Below we’re sharing ways that can save you money while receiving integrative or naturopathic care that are often overlooked.

Tax Savings from Medical Expenses

Medical expenses can be tax-deductible to the extent they exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted gross income is $100,000 and your total medical expenses are $9,000, you can deduct $1,500 of medical expenses. Our staff is happy to total up your yearly total expenses so you can submit this on your tax forms.

HSA vs FSA: What’s the Difference?

HSAs and FSAs are special accounts that let you set aside money before it’s taxed to pay for health care costs.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

  • Available only to people who have a high-deductible health insurance plan.

  • Contributions are tax-deductible, earnings (if invested) are tax-free, as are withdrawals for eligible medical expenses.

  • Unused funds can be carried forward indefinitely.

  • Contribution limits are $4,300 for self-only coverage and $8,550 for family coverage. Individuals age 55 and older can make an additional $1,000 catch-up contribution.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • Available to almost everyone, your employer simply has to offer FSA enrollment.

  • Contributions are tax-deductible, and withdrawals for eligible medical expenses are tax-free.

  • Unused funds generally can’t be carried over to the next year.

  • As of 2025, the contribution limit per year is $3,300.

GoodRx for Prescriptions

Even if your medication is covered by insurance, using GoodRx coupons can often be less expensive than your copay!  GoodRx.com is a free online platform that helps you save money on prescriptions by comparing prices at different pharmacies and providing coupons. You can save up to 80% on virtually all FDA-approved drugs.

Ulta Labs for Lab Tests

Insurance usually covers your AIM Clinic provider’s lab orders for testing at Quest and LabCorp. Depending on your insurance company, Ulta Labs allows you to order lab tests online, get your blood drawn at a nearby lab, and receive your results online. You can save up to 90% on your lab tests. If your order is sent from an AIM Clinic provider, the cost is even less than ordering labs directly through Ulta Labs.

Compounding Pharmacies

Compounding pharmacies are a specific type of pharmacy that makes custom medications. If your insurance does not cover certain medications, there often are lower cost options available through a compounding pharmacy. For instance, weight loss medications like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are not covered by insurance but can be compounded for much less expense than paying out of pocket for the brand name versions.

Professional Supplements

Many of the professional-grade supplements we use can be ordered on Fullscript for 10% off. Also, supplements purchased in office or on Fullscript typically can go towards HSA, FSA, or tax-deductible medical expenses. For a Fullscript order, ask your AIM Clinic provider!

Integrative Labs

We use Rupa Health to order most of our integrative medicine labs.  Rupa Health significantly discounts nearly all the tests ordered through your AIM Clinic provider!

Work Performance

Many of our patients grapple with health conditions that hinder their ability to perform at their maximum capacity. However, by leveraging top-notch integrative therapies under the expert guidance of our AIM Clinic providers, they can regain their full earning potential!
